Wellness Tip: Eat More Fruits & Veggies
Published by Sametris McKenney on September 12, 2017
.....................................................................................................................................................................................

Most people know that eating fruits and vegetables is important for good health, but most of us still aren’t getting enough. This September, let’s participate in Fruits & Veggies – More Matters Month. Eating a healthy diet with plenty of vegetables and fruits can help you lower your risk for heart disease and some types of cancer, maintain or reach a healthy weight, and keep your body strong and active. Here are some ideas to help you and your family fit more fruits and vegetables into your day. Try keeping a bowl of fruit handy where the whole family can see it, cut up fruits and veggies ahead of time so they’re ready for quick, healthy snacks, and challenge your family to try a new veggie or fruit every week. Remember, eating more fruits and veggies can be fun and worth it!

What is R.O.A.R. @ MWES?
Published by Sametris McKenney on September 2, 2017
.....................................................................................................................................................................................

At our school, we are introducing, modeling, and reinforcing positive behavioral expectations and rewarding students for following them. This is a much more positive approach than waiting for misbehavior to occur before responding.  The first two weeks of school is devoted to teaching our students the school’s expectations, policies, rountines, and procedures through our R.O.A.R. Matrix.

The acronym R.O.A.R. embodies the vision for behavior at Margaret Willis.

We believe in Respect, Order & safety, positive Attitude, and Responsibility.

The purpose of school-wide PBIS is to establish a climate in which appropriate behavior is the norm. Parents, please ask your child about R.O.A.R.!

Every Minute Counts!
Published by Sametris McKenney on August 27, 2017

Every-Minute-Counts-300x237Last school year, over 800 students were tardy to our elementary schools everyday. This year, the CCS is ‘teaming up’ with parents to combat student tardiness from grades kindergarten through 12th. As we have examined student data, it was discovered that some students are repeatedly missing large blocks of instructional time because of tardiness. Many of them are being checked in to school one hour late every day. We also have many who are being checked out by their parent/guardian early each day as well. Read more
